PROFILE

Xiang Cai is an Associated Research Fellow/Lecturer of Public Administration, and Supervisor of Master’s Students, at the School of Politics and Public Administration (SPPA). Interests span a variety of themes on public administration and policy, Dr. Cai’s areas of expertise currently focus on policy implementation, urban development and policy, health care reform and policy, local governance, anti-corruption and clean government, and housing policy. Prior to joining the SPPA faculty, Dr. Cai served as a lecturer focusing on empirical research, data science and social statistics at the University of Texas at Dallas; as well as a research associate of China Politics, Economy and Public Policy in the collaboration with Tsinghua University & Pace University. Dr. Cai is conducting two research projects on health care issues at national and provincial level, one of which has been funded by The National Social Science Fund of China. In addition, he has worked as a research team member in several projects related to anti-corruption, local governance and urban development. Dr. Cai’s work has been published in leading academic journals, his publication outlets include Journal of Chinese Political Science, Sustainability, International Journal of Housing Market and Analysis, Theory and Reform, and other SSCI and CSSCI journals.

 

Dr. Cai received a Ph.D degree in Public Policy and Political Economy from the University of Texas at Dallas in 2017. Before pursuing doctoral degree in the U.S., Cai studied at Sun Yat-Sen University, where he received his Master and Bachelor degrees in Public Administration. At the SPPA, Dr. Cai teaches Public Administration and Research Methods of Social Science for undergraduates, Politics and Government of Contemporary China and Comparative Social Policy (co-instructed) for master’s students, Public Policy Analysis for doctoral students.
